Whore.....Really??

Violence-against-women

This is something that happened not so long ago. This is about a woman whom I never met before that night.

One night while returning from office I saw a lot of people standing in the rain.I thought what are they doing here in rain.I asked the driver to go and see what's happening there. After sometime he came back and said that a man is beating his wife with an iron rod.I was shocked to hear that. One single man was beating his wife and so many people were just standing and watching like they were dead.I immediately moved out of the taxi to see what exactly was happening. As soon as I stepped out I heard a woman screaming and asking for help. What I saw there can make any human with a heart cry. There was blood everywhere and that woman was lying on the road half dead. The man with the rod was fully drunk and was saying "You whore, how dare you sleep with some one else".I asked some people what's the matter and a man standing there said that she was caught having sex with someone else, that man is her husband.I asked why nobody is helping her?The man said it's a family matter.I asked another person and got almost the same reply.I thought if no one will help her right now she will definitely die in no time. But that man was drunk and with a rod in his hand, behaving like a mad dog.I asked my taxi driver and two more drivers standing there to stop that man and lock him in his room.We will not take that risk and there's nothing we will get from it,they said.Ok so that's the stupid reason for not helping that woman.I doubted for a while, is this the place called earth and am I among humans.OK,get that man and lock him in his room I will pay you for that. They immediately agreed and stopped that man from further attacking his wife.I immediately called my doctor for ambulance and asked some woman standing there to help that woman lying on the road with blood all over her body. She was crying with pain.Within some moment an ambulance reached the spot and took that woman with them.I followed that ambulance and paid the doctor's fees.It was late night so I asked doctor to take good care of her and left hospital.
Violence-against-women

After 2 days she recovered a bit and I visited her in the hospital to know what's exactly the case. Her son was sitting right next to her.I asked him to go get some fruits and gave him some money.I asked her about that day.First of all she thanked me for saving her life. After that whatever she said disturbed me a lot.She agreed being caught with another man and that it was her husband who attacked her with a rod.She said that she married that man 10 years back and she never knew that she was attempting suicide by doing so.She said that her husband does nothing to help her and their 3 children. She works and earns money for her family but her husband wastes all of her money on alcohol.I want my children to go to school and for that I need a lot of money, she said. She works whole day washing dishes and clothes.Time was running out for school admissions and there was no way left other than what I did,she added. She did that to earn money and buy books and for school fees.I was listening to her and my heart was crying. How a man who never did anything for his family can call this woman a whore?I have the same respect for this woman as I have for any other woman.A mother feels the pain of her child.A mother can never see her child suffer.A mother can cross any limit to bring smile to her child's face. She was trying the same thing and if that makes her a whore, so be it.Before declaring her a whore let's decide, what to call that man, that drunk man who beats helpless wife like a dog and runs away from his responsibilities?

  3. sadly it is in most parts of the world including the USA. Thank you for writing about it it is so important and at the base of our existence. Our children see this and it becomes ingrained in their hearts and minds and it just keeps on happening with each new generation!!! STumbled and tweeted and +

  4. A very sad story. So much anger played out against the vulnerable. It is hard to believe a crowd of able bodied people would stand by and just watch. There is no excuse for that kind of behaviour. I believe there are no coincidences. You were meant to be there, save this women's life and then remind the world through your writing that we as a society need to stop this madness. These are our wives, mothers, sisters and grandmothers. Not even the animal kingdom behaves in this manner. Who then is the "Animal"? Thank you for this valuable story..

  6. Albert Einstein quoted: "this world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil but because of those who look on n do nothing" so true!! This post can melt any heart.. I must say if she was a whore then her husband must be a "PIMP" n a disgrace to mankind. I salute to that woman who can tolerate anything to feed n educate her children. May God bless her.

  9. I hereby Thank everyone who read and commented.I write about things that I personally hate a lot. This was a really bad bad experience.I mean people are so concerned about self safety that they ignore something so serious like this.Anyone could have helped that woman before I reached there, but none of those people standing there were ready to do so.There were kids with them too...what will they learn?

  10. This man, this savior, is what I would also describe him as today's version of "The Good Samaritan." This woman was obviously scorned and hated or why would so many men and women just stand by and allow this monster beat her!! There have been men like this husband all down through the ages and there is no changing them. At the same time, Thank God, there are men like our Good Smaritan as well.

  11. The sad truth is that a majority of people would walk by in this situation acting as though they had seen nothing. If only each of us would be there for each other, ready to help someone in need, the world would be a far better place.

  12. I spent half my life watching people turning their heads away from my abuse. Nothing surprises me anymore. Great post, thanks for bringing attention this.

  13. I don't understand how some people can turn a blind eye against abuse.... You did a great thing by helping this lady out. Its heart breaking and sad but a crying shame this happens more often than we'd like to admit... Abuse is as real as love...

  14. @Janie @Larry @Jan @Debbie Thanks for stopping by and leaving your views.Abuse is as real as love, that's the truth. As Larry said if each one of us would care for each other, the world would be a far better place.

  20. Thank you. As a woman, I thank you.

This is a heartbreaking story. But the tragic reality can not stand up to the hope you bring by standing up and taking a step to end it. You can't stop domestic abuse in the world, but you sure made a hell of a difference to that lady. And I hope many many people take courage from your actions and follow your example.

  22. This shook me dada...as much as I say that the woman had poor choices, I felt really sorry for her awful condition... And for that man, shame on him.

Like Jim said, it also happens in other countries, mine included...and women always opt for the easiest way to obtain money as being sex slaved or agreeing to be somebody else's "partner" for the night... It's sad...

Anyhow, I commend you for your big heart. It brought me back to Jesus and the woman caught in adultery ...

so who has the right to cast stones at her?

  23. @Maureen I just did what I need to do as a human...Thanks for reading and leaving your views.

@Mani I don't think so....all I want is every other person to do the same in such a situation.I will keep doing it.

@Melissa Opting to sell yourself is a not so easy step. That's the last step a woman takes. The biggest question is "So who has the right to cast stones at her?"

  24. Hi Abhisek,

There is so much wrong with this picture. The man was wrong to be beating his wife. The crowd was wrong for letting him do it. The woman was wrong for prostituting herself. But you were right for being the Good Samaritan and helping her.
